Hypnosis is a very safe and effective way to enable you to make the changes you desire. The state of hypnosis is simply a state of complete relaxation. This is a state that we normally experience everyday when we are just about to wake up in the morning and just as we fall asleep at night; that wonderful relaxed state when we daydream or when we are reading an interesting book. During hypnosis we are completely in control and are able to distinguish between dialogue we want to accept and those that we do not agree with. The subconscious mind controls our emotions, our self-esteem, our beliefs, our immune systems, and our bodies. Hypnosis is the primary method used to contact the subconscious mind.
Your conscious mind is the part of you that analyses and discerns. Your subconscious mind is the part that holds all your experiences habits and feelings and is responsible for many of your automatic responses and reactions which are linked with negative feelings. The majority of these responses and reactions are programmed when you are a child and continue to play in the subconscious mind. Regression therapy, allows you to revisit your past experiences in a safe setting, gain insight, release any negative thoughts, feelings and limiting beliefs and replace them with positive thoughts, feelings and beliefs.
Alchemical Hypnotherapy differs from traditional hypnotherapy as it blends guided journeying, spiritual development with aspects of traditional hypnotherapy and Jungian psychology. A light state of trance is used to facilitate a client’s personal journey into their inner world to find their teachers, guides and their true, authentic self. This allows us to uncover the true voice hidden beneath our constant mind chatter. Everyone experiences mind chatter and this process allows you to discern between unhelpful and negative talk from your true inner voice.
Contacting the Inner Child
Often times our problems stem from experiences in childhood. Those experiences are forgotten by our conscious minds but circumstances and events in our adult lives can trigger reactions within us. When we were children if we had negative experiences and we suppressed the natural emotional response (such as anger or sadness) it is then trapped but can rear up as an adult. It is surprising that some incidents we as an adult would consider as insignificant but they still affect the inner child and hold us back as an adult. For instance, perhaps when you were at primary school a teacher said “you’re tone deaf, you’ll never be able to sing,” and you believed them. Being told that is stored in your subconscious mind. Whenever you sing you’re voice gets wobbly and you feel like you’re just not good enough.
Inner child work was originally developed to deal with abuse issues. However, it’s use is highly effective for many kinds of incidents and experiences, however trivial it may seem to an adult. For instance, a person may not remember being told as a child “stop crying, don’t show emotion!” which causes an emotional blockage. The memory can be accessed through being in a trance state and then dealt with by releasing the blocked emotion.
If a child’s fundamental needs such as love, affection, freedom, play, food, companionship are not met during childhood then feelings are repressed and become inappropriate in the adult causing behaviour disorders. For instance, when a person is triggered and their reaction is excessive in comparison to the actual event that triggered it, it’s their inner child. Have you ever lashed out at someone and afterwards thought, “wow where did that come from?”
When the inner child is made safe, secure and feels loved then the magical child emerges who is — playful, fun, spontaneous, full of wonder and magic. This is the part of the child who has never been wounded or damaged.
What will a session be like?
Entering an altered state is completely safe, it is just as safe as being in a day dream i.e. you can’t get stuck in a trance, you can’t be made to do anything against your will and there is no question of mind control – you are always fully aware and in control in a session.
Most sessions last between one to two hours. You will not be guided into an unconscious state in the session. Instead you will feel deeply relaxed but in full control of your experience and will awake with full recollection of your experiences. This is an alert state of trance, similar to daydreaming or meditating. We will be talking to each other to resolve any issues which arise and uncover the underlying cause of of the problem. You will be exploring your memories through your own inner world under through guided journeying, you may get visual images or an internal voice tells you what is happening. It is important that you understand what is causing the presenting issue, we then deal with it. We deal with the issue at the core to alleviate the symptoms. I am purely interested in helping you heal and dissolve the blocks to living a life which is joyful.
Before the session
It is important to be able to relax and let go of mind chatter. If you find yourself saying negative comments like “this is rubbish, it’ll never work” then ask your mind to be quiet, you could say to yourself, “thank you, be quiet now”. Then take a big cleansing breath and connect with your heart by putting your hands there. This might sound strange but it really works. It helps you to just notice the words, you don’t have to believe them! Since practising this technique my life has become so much clearer as I don’t listen to the constant negative voices, I feel a lot more peaceful.
What is the ego?
The ego helps us on a day to day basis navigating the world. For instance, helping us with functional aspects of our life like remembering the pay the bills. It is in fact necessary to have an ego in order to keep our bodies safe and operate in the world. The problem is that the ego takes over our emotions and makes judgements.
The ego also identifies with our wounded “Inner Child”. Therefore, recognise that this is a wounded part of you. Love it like the child that it is and in time you may be able to laugh at the silly comments the ego makes, like “you’re so stupid” and reassure yourself that you’re not! Remember it was probably your parents or teachers that told you this as a child. Take control and assume the proper relationship with your ego; children do not drive – they are passengers who comment and may influence your choices.
Past Life Regression:
It may not be only experiences in this life that need to be cleared but those from past-lives. Many of the relationships we have in this life are not by chance, we incarnate with other souls to learn specific life lessons. We develop soul contracts with these people which are no longer relevant and impact our current life. Or we may have experienced trauma in past lives and that past life personality may need to be rescued. For instance, drowning in a past life may cause a fear of water bodies. We may also have karmic debts to pay by having caused trauma to other people. Our soul needs to atone for what we did and ask forgiveness from those who were affected. Understanding how past-lives affect us helps us to gain insight into developing our soul in this lifetime. Through our soul’s development we can break the cycle of pain we cause each other.
In exploring the inter-life we come to understand the great plan of your soul’s evolution. How we work with our soul group, meet our spiritual guides or get advice about a situation in this life.
This can take us on a journey of discovery to find out:
- What are the main things I decided to learn in this lifetime?
- What is my purpose in this life?
- Why did I choose this body?
- Why did I choose these parents, friends, life partners?
- What do I have to learn from certain events that have happened in my life?
- What do I have to learn from certain illnesses?
- What do I have to learn in the relationships I have?
Many of us often carry negative feelings toward oneself or others who have hurt us in the past. When regressing back to the inter-life it is possible to receive a greater understanding of why some people came in our life and did the things they did to us. We actually may even learn that it was part of our soul contract so that we could learn something specific, or perhaps that it was linked with a karmic issue. Consequently, by finding out the reason we often forgive them much easier. What did I need to learn? Why did I need to gain strength to stand up for myself?
The collective unconscious is a level of unconscious shared with other members of humanity comprising of latent memories from our ancestral and evolutionary past.
Sub-personality Theory – Examining the “Voices in Our Head”
Another area of the Transpersonal Process is dealing with the many voices we have in our head and interestinly, these voices may be conflicting and blocking us from moving forward. The aim of this process is to unite these voices to work together to solve whatever the issue is. It sounds a bit strange, but is highly effective because the voices may represent an inner rebel, inner judge, inner victim or inner rescuer which all have different functions. First we give the character behind the voice (the sub-personality) an opportunity to voice their concerns. For example, most of us can identify the judgemental voice within us that is always criticising us and making us wrong. The aim of conference room is first to hear out the judge’s complaints. Then we need to turn around that judgemental way of thinking by making the judge realise that this approach clearly isn’t working. We need to convince the judge to take a more compassionate and supportive approach. In fact, their approach might be outdated it worked back then but not now, being so hard on the person isn’t necessary. We need to convince the judge to take a more compassionate and supportive approach.
